So we are now into a new decade and I haven't made any real progress on the tasks I previously outlined back in 2019. So as you can see a real pirate blitz at the moment, and it's kept me on topic more than I've ever been, so hopefully this can relate to something productive for this blog. I don't have a regualr time to watch it and the NFL season has slightly usurped it for a few weeks, so I need to get back to it.

To top it all off I've just finished the first series of Black Sails, which I enjoyed a lot. After that I've got Stranger Tides lined up and whatever else I can find. I'm just going to make do with what I've got for now.Īs well as that I've been reading pirate books, the absolute classics Captain Blood and then Treasure Island, which I didn't enjoy as much which may be down to familairity, and now Doctor Syn (which is new to me). To rectify the miniatures problem I have a multitude of paper minis that are ideal, but the lack of a ship is a pain. I also don't have any good pirate ship scenery (let alone an actual to scale ship), or indeed miniatures (at least of the metal or plastic kind). This has meant trying to write the additional parts I need for a pirates game to work. Now, I could have just selected a ruleset and got on with it, but that would have been too simple! In fairness I have selected a ruleset I know well, it's just not setup for pirates 'out of the box'.

I've also had a hankering to get some minis out, which coinciding with my pirates mood, meant that I was on the look out for a pirate minis game.

I hope to get a full game in very soon, but free-time as always, seems elusive. I've only run a test game or two so far, but enjoyed the experience, even including the usual rules stumbles. In other pirate news I had a large(ish) pile of cash from my birthday, and splurged on the boardgame Merchants & Mauraders which has been described as Sid Meier's Pirates! in boardgame form, and I can totally see that. I'm currently re-written it pretty much from scratch and including all of the things that should have been in the first version (which technically I only considered a beta, if that, despite it now being 10 years old!). Well, as mentioned, I have continued working on my FU Pirates game.

Well after playing that a while I then decided to start watching Black Sails on Amazon Prime, read Captain Blood and then start Treasure Island.Īll of that has done nothing but fuel my urge for more pirate goodness (if that's not an oxymoron). That really is an amazing game, and a major factor in my own pirate game. It all started with my continued work on my FU Pirates game, and an urge to play that pirate classic, Sid Meier's Pirates!. Publishers use these marks when books are returned to them. Not literally a pirate kicking, or kicking a pirate, just on an immersive pirates mood all round.

  • Remainder Mark - A remainder mark is usually a small black line or dot written with a felt tip pen or Sharpie on the top, bottom, side page edges and sometimes on the UPC symbol on the back of the book.

If excessively worn, they will be marked as "tray worn."

  • Flat trays for SPI games are not graded, and have the usual problems.
  • If excessively worn, they will be marked as "card worn."
  • The cardboard backing of miniature packs is not graded.
  • In most cases, boxed games and box sets do not come with dice.
  • Due to the nature of loose counters, if a game is unplayable it may be returned for a refund of the purchase price.
  • Boardgame counters are punched, unless noted.
  • Major defects and/or missing components are noted separately.
  • Example, EX+ is an item between Excellent and Near Mint condition.
  • A "plus" sign indicates that an item is close to the next highest condition.
  • When only one condition is listed, then the box and contents are in the same condition.
